For those of you wondering what exactly is being eliminated when someone goes on a migraine elimination diet, I’ve listed out the rules that Husband and I are following. My sister is a doctor, and this is a copy of the Migraine Diet sheet that they hand out at her hospital.
I learned in a matter of minutes that the internet is annoyingly contrary on the subject of migraines. Because my sister specifically handed me this list, we are following it. But we’re also adding a general ban on Soy and tomatoes, and we’re trying to avoid anything that lists out “sulfite” in their ingredients as I’ve read that these are also triggers.
One of the main things that can be difficult to keep track of is MSG. The people who list out ingredients have a few different ingredient names that specifically mean MSG, but there are also several ingredient names that could be MSG or that could indicate MSG might be there. A list of ingredients to watch out for can be found here. MSG is a complicated and somewhat vilified amino acid. Like many things, MSG seems to be a problem when it’s artificially created or added to a food. You can find more information on it here.
